Build and Kill Zombies Support Placement: Where to Mount Weapons

Mount contact supports on the front face and ranged supports forward-facing with clear line of sight so they reliably hit zombies. Includes bad-mount pitfalls and pre-run checks.

Mount contact supports on the front face of the car so they hit zombies before anything else does, and mount ranged supports forward-facing with a clear line of sight past the chassis edge. Anything bolted to the roof or rear may never touch or fire at a zombie, turning the weapon into wasted weight.

Contact support placement: front face, before the car hits

Contact supports rely on physical collision, so they must be the first part of the car that touches a zombie. Mount them on the front face of the chassis:

  • The Glass Cylinder deals contact damage on anything touching the bumper and is cheap enough to fit on a starter chassis on run one.
  • The Shredder, a spiked roller, should use a low front mount so the roller contacts the ground line of the wave. The general rule from Build Mode practice: mount a Shredder on the front face so it makes contact with zombies before the rest of the car does.

Ranged support placement: forward-facing with clear line of sight

Ranged supports such as the Crossbow, a dedicated station weapon that fires before contact, need a forward-facing mount with clear line of sight past the chassis edge. If the chassis blocks the firing line, the weapon cannot shoot the approaching wave even though it is equipped.

Bad placement: mounts that never touch or never fire are pure loss

Weapon placement is unforgiving. A support fitted to the roof or rear may never touch a zombie, which reads like a broken weapon rather than a bad build. Community tier-list guidance classifies weapons mounted where they never fire as F tier — they cost more weight or cash than they can ever return — and notes that a rare weapon you cannot mount is worth less than a common fuel part that extends runs. Weight matters too: building a weapon platform too heavy to travel far enough to use its weapons is the most common way players waste cash.

Placement workflow and pre-run checks

  1. In Build Mode, use the VEHICLE tab to place blocks, engine, wheels and fuel first — get the frame stable before thinking about weapons.
  2. Switch to the WEAPONS tab and attach supports, applying the front-face rule for contact weapons (Shredder, Glass Cylinder) and the forward-facing line-of-sight rule for ranged weapons (Crossbow).
  3. Drive and read the results: a "New distance record!" banner is the clearest signal that the build change worked.
  4. Change one placement or part at a time between runs so you know what actually improved the distance.

Placement guidance here covers the contact and ranged mounting rules above; other supports' mounting requirements are not documented, and no exact trigger distances or firing angles are specified. Recheck support targeting and collision behavior after any balance or physics update.
