Build and Kill Zombies Shredder: How to Get and Use It
How to get the Shredder in Build and Kill Zombies, its Uncommon rarity, 1-in-12 roll chance, $250 cost, and why it needs a low front mount for contact damage.
The Shredder is a contact weapon in Build and Kill Zombies: a spiked roller that flattens zombies the car rolls over. It's classified as Uncommon, costs $250 when it appears at the Car Parts station, and is designed to be mounted low on the front of the chassis so the roller touches zombies at ground-line height before the rest of the car does.
How to obtain the Shredder
The Shredder is the early weapon the opening tutorial steers you toward, and you buy it the same way you bought the Small Engine:
- Roll for a weapon at the Car Parts station.
- Purchase the Shredder when it appears.
- Open the Build menu with B, switch to the Weapons tab, and set the Shredder on its marked mounting spot.
Parts only snap to marked spots, so there's no free placement to worry about. Your first car is complete once it has an engine and a weapon — a car with no weapon still drives but earns far less, since kills are part of the payout.

How contact damage works and where to mount it
The Shredder damages zombies by physically touching them with its spiked roller as the car drives forward, flattening anything in the roller's path. That makes placement everything:
- Low front mount is correct. The roller needs to contact the ground line of the wave — the height zombies actually occupy — and make contact before the rest of the car does.
- A bad mount reads as a broken weapon. A Shredder fitted to the roof or rear may never touch a zombie, which the game's own guides flag as unforgiving placement rather than an obvious build mistake.
- Front-face placement is the general rule for contact weapons. Parts like the Glass Cylinder also damage anything touching the bumper from the front, but the Shredder's roller specifically needs ground-line height.
Why a badly mounted weapon earns nothing
- The Shredder only pays out on zombies its roller physically touches during a run.
- Kill income is part of your run payout alongside distance, so a weapon that never contacts a zombie directly reduces earnings.
- Rolls cost cash whether or not you like the result, so rerolling for a weapon you failed to mount correctly doubles the waste.
- Keep the build light enough to travel far. The tier guidance warns against building a weapon platform too heavy to reach enough of a wave to use its weapons, so pair the front-mounted Shredder with a chassis that still completes long runs.
